Why Cosplay?

Some people find it amazing. Some people find it weird. Some think it’s worth it, while others say it’s just a waste of time. No matter what others think about cosplay, if you want to do it, you shouldn’t give a damn and just do it.

Sometimes it can be a little annoying to constantly make other people understand why you do the things you love to do. Isn’t it enough to just say that it’s something you are passionate about? Do you really have to go through all the questioning and the disapproval looks of other people? I say we gather all those people who can’t accept cosplay inside a cinema, tie them on the chairs and play non-stop anime on the wide screen . Just kidding! Although it’s a great idea (not), we won’t result to such drastic measure for the love of peace and respect to all epic anime created. On contrary, one could still try to make them understand why this craft deserves the attention.

Cosplayers differ when it pertains to the reason on why they cosplay. Despite the differences, I am pretty much sure that they’ll agree on even just one of the reasons (if not all) I have listed below.

1.  Cosplay is a form of art

Do you know that most cosplayers creates their own costumes? They customize their wigs, design their own clothes and even learn to do their own makeup just so they can successfully cosplay the characters they want to portray. That will require a lot of artistic juices in order to create one. But for them it doesn’t because it’s a form of art which makes them express themselves more.

2.  Cosplay can be a stress reliever

The cool part of being a cosplayer is that you can be a totally different person even just for a day. I’m not saying that it’s not cool to be yourself. But if you were just given the chance to free yourself from being YOU, someone who’s not worrying about your workload and the usual things one thinks about, won’t you take it? Cosplay can make you stress-free even just for a moment. It is your well-deserved escape from reality. A time out from all the ruthlessness the world offers.

3.  Cosplay builds friendship

Do you ever wonder why there are so many conventions that provides opportunity for people to cosplay? Try to attend all the cosplay events for a year and you’ll definitely see familiar cosplayers roaming through all those conventions. The fun part is that they usually attend in groups. Most of them met each other through such events.  They have built a community amongst each other. Through cosplay, friendships that could last are formed.

4.  Cosplay is fun

The entire process of cosplay is fun despite the undeniable truth that it requires a lot of effort to prepare the costumes and how you look like. Still, it’s extremely exciting to dress up like someone else and get away with it. It’s like turning into a child trying to play dress up once again but in a whole different kind of level. There’s just so much fun in it.
